Habitat:

• Mixed Pine Upland and Hardwood Bottomland

• Five-year old clear cut with planted pines on 100 acres

• Streamside management zone with flowing creek and standing hardwoods on 50 acres

• Improved pasture with grazing livestock surrounding tract

Habitat management

• Cleared and planted four one-acre plots

• Planted food plots in the fall with cool season annuals and clover

• Bush hog 5 acre fallow field annually

Hunting strategy

• No activity on property from the end of deer season to the opening of turkey season

• Natural ground blinds around food plots, improved pasture and fallow field

• No scouting or walking the property during turkey season

• Minimal calling used

Hen and jake decoys used

Result

• Two mature gobblers during the first year the property was leased

• One mature gobbler during second season
