Violet Canal to close for 75 days beginning Feb. 17

Bayou Dupre Sector gate repairs spur closure, Corps says

The Violet Canal will be closed to all navigation beginning Monday, Feb. 17 as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Lake Borgne Levee District conduct maintenance and repairs to the Bayou Dupre Sector gate.

According to a press release, the closure will last about 75 days and the canal is scheduled to reopen in April.

During the closure, no vessel traffic will be able to pass through the Bayou Dupre Sector gate (Violet locks), but the Bayou Bienvenue control structure will remain open as an alternate route.
