The state’s weekend-only season will end on Sept. 29, with no snapper fishing allowed on Monday, Sept. 30
With the recent announcement by NOAA Fisheries confirming a 14-day fall red snapper season starting Oct. 1 in federal Gulf of Mexico waters, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced state waters will open during the same time period.
According to a press release from LDWF, state and federal waters will open with a two-fish limit and a minimum size of 16 inches.
The Louisiana weekend-only season will end this Sunday, Sept. 29 and there will be no red snapper fishing on Sept. 30.
The move to a 14-day recreational season came after a tumultuous summer that saw higher than expected catch estimates which threatened the October season, as well as the LDWF’s decision to end its participation in the Marine Recreational Information Program effective Jan. 1.
