Two new Sun Cat models to be introduced in September
There’s a new cat prowling the waters this fall and it has an excellent lineage.
Encore Boat Builders, manufacturer of Encore Bentley Pontoons, has entered the small fishing boat and runabout market with an all-welded catamaran named the Sun Cat.
A 16-foot model will be officially introduced at the company’s dealer show on September 16, and an 18-foot model will soon follow. The Sun Cat models will be built at the Encore Bentley facility in Lexington, S.C.
The catamaran design has been praised for years for its inherent stability, seaworthiness and efficiency. Building it from aluminum brings those qualities to boaters and fishermen in a lightweight form that can be towed by nearly any vehicle. So the fuel efficient vehicle used to commute to and from work can also tow the boat to the lake for weekend outings.
The boat is fuel efficient, too. The lighter weight of aluminum allows spirited performance with lower horsepower outboards. With the recommended 50-horsepower outboard, the Sun Cat 16 easily cruises at 25 to 27 mph, with a top speed surpassing 30. It does this while sipping fuel, and offers many smiles per gallon.
Fishing features begin with an aerated and illuminated 7.5-gallon livewell. The Sun Cat is also pre-wired to accommodate an electric trolling motor. A rear platform with a pedestal fishing seat is standard, and there is also a seat base at the bow for an additional pedestal seat. The 18-gallon fuel tank carries fuel for the whole weekend.
