Two Metairie residents cited for stealing crabs, LDWF says

Agents seize 63 pounds of blue crabs in Lake Pontchartrain

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents cited two Metairie residents for alleged crabbing violations on Lake Pontchartrain on Aug. 2, according to a press release.

Agents set up surveillance from the shoreline after receiving complaints about stolen crabs in the area and observed David E. Shelhorse Jr., 37, and Jennifer Bourgeois, 31, running crab traps with two different colored corks.

After stopping the subjects, agents determined the traps the pair were working belonged to another commercial fisherman, the release states.

Agents cited Shelhorse Jr. and Bourgeois for unlawfully removing the contents of a crab trap, which carries a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail if they are found guilty.

More than 63 pounds of blue crabs were seized in the operation, LDWF said.
