Offshore permit requirement dropped for yellowfin tuna, added for gray snapper, wahoo, cobia and dolphin

LDWF cites case for regional management in adding species to permit list

In an effort to capture the most comprehensive data possible, the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission added gray snapper, wahoo, cobia and dolphin to the free required offshore landing permit, according to a press release.

The permit is required for all anglers, including those not normally required to possess a recreational fishing license, for tunas, billfish, swordfish, amberjacks, groupers and snappers and hinds.

The commission removed the permit reporting requirement for yellowfin tuna.

According to the release, as the state continues to make the case for regional management, it is more important now for anglers to provide LDWF biologists with  data that will strengthen the case.

The Recreational Offshore Landings Permit is free and available here: http://rolp.wlf.la.gov/Permit/Apply.
