An 18-year-old Morgan City man was arrested Friday morning in connection with the vandalism of two LDWF vehicles last month on the Atchafalaya Delta Wildlife Management Area.
According to a press release from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Aaron LeCompte surrendered to St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s deputies and admitted to vandalizing a bulldozer and utility vehicle on the Big Island portion of the Atchafalaya Delta WMA.
He was subsequently booked into the St. Mary Parish Criminal Facility.
The bulldozer was buried in mud up to the floorboard, and the UTV was stuck in a ditch, the release states.
Costs associated with the damage are unknown, but LeCompte is accused of two counts of unlawful use of a vehicle and simple criminal damage to property.
Unlawful use of a vehicle brings up to a $5,000 fine and 10 years in jail for each offense. SImple criminal damage to property carries up to a $1,000 fine and two years in jail if the damage to property is between $500 and $50,000, the release states.
