2013 International Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo set for this weekend

Three-day event wraps up Saturday evening, official says

Billed as the oldest fishing tournament in the United States, the 2013 International Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo takes place this weekend.

Angela Dorvin, event coordinator, said pre-registered participation is right on target for the event, which will run July 25-27 out of the Sand Dollar Marina.

The official scales at the marina will close at 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dorvin said. The pavilion, located next door, opens to the public each day at 11 a.m.

All registered participants are eligible to win the rodeo’s grand prize: a Blazer bay boat with a Mercury 150 Pro XS motor and a tandem-axle Magic Tilt trailer.

“The grand prize will be given away at the conclusion of the awards presentation Saturday night,” she said.

Anglers can register on-site, and can participate in the Big Game Division, Shoreline Division or Inside Division.
