Find bank fishing spots with satellite imagery

Although Aaron Langlois and Joseph Bordelon showed me one of their favorite bank-fishing spots from a boat, there’s no doubt they are drawn to the simplicity of being land-locked anglers.

However, finding a spot along a thousands-mile long river isn\’t as simple as it sounds. Through trial and error, these anglers have located some spots they return to time and time again.

Langlois suggested using technology to help speed up the process.

“You can find good bank-fishing spots using Google Maps,” he said. “I like to zoom in tight and look for places where there might have been an old ramp of some kind or a road that goes up and over the levee where I can park on the river side of the levee.”

When he finds a few spots he wants to check out, Langlois visits them with an eye out for good structure within a long cast from the bank.

“I look for stuff that will hold fish that I can fish without getting hung up all the time,” he explained. “I like logs over rocks, but rocks will work if they have some calm eddy pools around. I also look for bait like gizzard shad upriver or mullet downriver.”
