Best casts are just a little long

In the summertime, Capt. Bobby Gros likes to fish as close to the pond shorelines as possible, but he also likes to limit the commotion in the shallow ponds.

So that means Gros will frequently cast his “Leeville specials” directly onto the marsh grass, and pull them off into the water.

“If there\’s a redfish around, and you cast right into the water, it might spook him, and you won\’t get a bite until everything settles down,” he said. “But if you cast into the grass and just pull it in, it\’s not going to scare anything off.”

And he terminal equipment makes that tactic a breeze.

“Those kahle hooks are designed to go through the grass real easily,” Gros said. “Most of the time, you won\’t have a problem.”
