Weekends-only state season begins again after federal closure, agency reports.
The snapper fishing season in Louisiana state waters will change from the weekends-only structure to mirror the federal season set last week, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced today.
That means starting Saturday (June 1), fishing will be allowed daily with a daily bag limit of two fish per person, the LDWF said.
The minimum size limit for snapper remains 16 inches, the agency said.
Daily fishing will be allowed through June 24, at which time the season within state waters will revert to the weekends-only fishing structure set up earlier this year that includes a three-per-person daily bag and a 16-inch minimum size limit in waters extending to 10.357 miles, the LDWF said.
For the purposes of the state red snapper season, a weekend begins on Friday and ends on Sunday with the exception of Labor Day, when Monday will be included in the season.
The state season ends on Sept. 30.
