Father tells story of son’s first kayak fishing trip

“We were a little concerned that he might not like it and we made that two hour drive for nothing, but that was definitely not the case,” Jayson Poucher said of his son Braydon’s first kayak fishing trip. “He woke up at 3:30 (a.m.) giving us high-fives — he was pumped. He didn’t shut up the whole two-hour ride there.

“We got on the water around 6 a.m., and about an hour later I let him reel in a rat red. He was excited, to say the least.

“I put him on a popping cork with shrimp and casted for him. He was able to set the hook and bring in about four rat reds and his first keeper fish. He landed a 16-inch black drum. He was super excited that he caught a fish we can keep.

“Looks like I will need to buy another kayak pretty soon: He told me he wants his own.”
