Pearl River WMA reopened by LDWF

WMA’s Old Highway 11 still remains closed, LDWF says.

All of Pearl River Wildlife Management Area was is now open, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries announced today (Sept. 11).

The popular WMA near Slidell was closed just before Hurricane Isaac made landfall, and it remained closed because of flooding after the tropical system passed through the area, the LDWF said.

However, access to the WMA via Old Highway 11 remains closed because flooding makes the roadway unsafe. Repairs to the highway are under way, the agency reported.

The portion of the WMA south of Interstate 10 had reopened earlier; today’s opening of that area of the property north of I-10 allows public full access, the LDWF said.

LDWF sites that remain closed until further notice include the following WMAs and refuges:  Elm Hall (Assumption Parish) and Elmer’s Island (Jefferson Parish).
