Concealment a breeze in layout boats

Though the odds are already in his favor being so low to the water, Johnny LaFleur goes to great lengths to ensure complete concealment of the boats.

One modification to the boat he undertook to aid in concealment was the addition of an old trawl net to the top of each boat to allow for weaving of natural marsh grasses to provide excellent camouflage.

“I cover my boats in bundles of local marsh grass to make each look like their own island,” LaFleur explained. “If I happen to choose a pond that’s got some different-looking vegetation in it, it’s easy to just pull some up and weave it into the netting before shooting time.”

According to LaFleur, the boats require some touch-up brushing about every second or third trip, but he pointed out how little effort it is to brush these little boats as opposed to a permanent blind out in the marsh.
