Monster buck had 15 points, nearly 25-inch inside spread, LDWF says.
A Winnsboro man was cited Thursday (Jan. 19) for allegedly killing a 15-point deer with an illegal weapon and entering it into several North Louisiana big-buck contests, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reported today.
LDWF agents cited Billy W. Jordan, 54, of Winnsboro for taking a deer with an illegal weapon and four felony counts of contest fraud, the agency reported.
The case began when agents received information alleging that Jordan had taken a trophy buck on Louisiana Delta property in Catahoula Parish with a .204-caliber rifle.
Louisiana law prohibits the use of guns of less than .22 caliber centerfire for hunting deer.Agents interviewed Jordan, and he allegedly confessed to shooting the buck with the illegal weapon on Dec. 28, the LDWF said.
The buck sported 15 points with main beams of 31 1/2 inches with an inside spread of 24 7/8 inches.
After killing the deer, Jordan allegedly entered the buck into four big-buck contests including Morehouse, Ouachita, Caldwell and LaSalle parishes. .
The antlers and the four score sheets from the big-buck contests were seized as evidence.
Jordan faces $2,033.29 in civil restitution for the value of the illegally taken deer.
Also, conviction of taking a deer with an illegal weapon would mean a fine of between $100 and $350, and up to 60 days in jail. Contest fraud carries a fine up to $3,000 and up to one year in jail for each count.
