Duck hunting opportunities abound for youth hunters just outside of New Orleans.
Portions of Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge will, for the first time, open for youth waterfowl hunting when the duck season opens Saturday (Nov. 6), refuge officials announced.
Youth hunting is the only type of hunting allowed on the refuge, and every youth must be under direct adult supervision, according to refuge regulations.
It is important to note that dividing line of the East and West hunting zones dissects the refuge along Highway 90.
Hunting is allowed until noon of each Thursday-Sunday of the waterfowl season, and is restricted to the areas of the refuge outside the hurricane protection levees.

Each adult may supervise no more than two youths, and each youth may be supervised by no more than one adult. Adults must be 21 years of age or older and youths must be age 15 and younger.
Supervising adults may participate in hunts, except during special state youth hunts.
State seasons, bag limits and regulations apply.
Each hunter must carry a signed permit found in the Bayou Sauvage NWR hunting brochure. The brochure also can be found at the refuge headquarters located on Highway 434 in Lacombe.

Fishing is closed in the waterfowl-hunting areas until noon Nov. 1-Jan. 31, refuge rules state.
