LWFC changes primitive-weapons season to bucks-only for Attakapas WMA

Other emergency deer-hunting rules renewed for portions of Atchafalaya Basin

The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission today (Nov. 3) changed muzzleloader regulations for Attakapas Wildlife Management Area, making it legal to shoot bucks only during the special season, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced.

Commissioners also extended the declaration of emergency approved in July to modify deer-hunting regulations in a portion of the Atchafalaya Basin. All changes came as a result of the historic flooding connected with the opening of the Morganza Spillway earlier this year, the LDWF said.

The Attakapas WMA change means hunters utilizing the area during the Jan. 23-29 special season cannot shoot does.

Among the already-announced changes that were extended today include alterations to the deer season on Sherburne Wildlife Management Area
