Fishing Edge offers all the hotspots

There’s more good news than bad in the store for hunters who, dream of gobbles, struts and beards.

Dear Capt. Paul:

I live in Corpus Christi, Texas, and am coming to Lafitte in the near future. We want to fish for reds south of Lafitte, and are looking for a few hotspots.

Do you have any suggestions where to go and possibly what artificial baits they seem to like best in March and April?

What I do know is the Barataria Bayou, which is at Lafitte, feeds into Barataria Bay, and the Gulf is about 40 minutes from Lafitte.

Thanks for any help,

Sam Celum

Captain Paul’s response:

I produce a program called Capt. Paul’s Fishing Edge of GPS Waypoints. It is an electronic program that loads into a GPS mapping program and then into your GPS receiver.

All of the Capt. Paul’s Fishing Edge of GPS Waypoints are available at the Louisiana Sportsman Outdoor Store.

The Outdoor Store link button may be found in the red banner on the left side of louisianasportsman.com. The Capt. Paul’s Fishing Edge button is also located on the home page at the top of the banner on the left side, as well as on the top of the reports page as a flash-in ad.

I call the programs Capt. Paul’s Fishing Edge because I believe they will give the angler an advantage in getting to and finding fishing spots, moving around, and getting back from some of the favorite fishing areas in the state.

Capt. Paul’s Fishing Edge is a unique electronic media program that can be downloaded directly into various GPS units from their manufacturers’ mapping programs or via several of Maptech’s mapping software programs. This technology saves countless hours of having to manually enter each separate waypoint value into the GPS receiver.

The entire procedure of loading over 150 waypoints from a Capt. Paul’s Fishing Edge file takes less than three minutes from the time you view the email file to the time that they are loaded in the GPS receiver.

Presently I have 14 Fishing Edge files, including Barataria Bay, Lake Borgne, Hopedale to the Mississippi Sound, Hopedale to Bayou Terre aux Boeufs, Delacroix to Pointe a la Hache, Bayou Bienvenue, Port Sulphur, Leeville West, Lafitte, Lake Pontchartrain, Calcasieu Lake, Myrtle Grove/Lake Hermitage, Empire to Buras and the Pearl River WMA.

To download the program(s) in your GPS, you must have five items.

First, a GPS receiver; second, that manufacturer’s mapping program or its waypoint manager software; third, a computer with a connecting cable to the GPS unit or data card; fourth, a valid e-mail address that accepts attachments, and fifth, a Capt. Paul’s Fishing Edge file.

Separate program files are designed for Garmin, Magellan and Lowrance GPS receivers and their mapping programs as well as for Maptech Terrain Navigator. These Edge files are not interchangeable.

Dear Capt. Paul:

I’d like to get the most out of my Garmin GPSmap 60 when fishing out of my 17-foot boat in the Lafitte area. When and where is your next seminar? I’d like to attend.

Thanks,

Tony Maurin
