Denham Springs man drowns while fishing on Grand Isle

Victim swept away from rocks while trying to save young girl.

A Denham Springs man drowned Sunday (July 3) while fishing on rocks at Grand Isle, news agency have reported.

Louis Arturo Polanco Morales, 47, was apparently fishing with a young girl and a second man when the girl fell into the water, the Jefferson Parish Coronor’s Office told the Houma Courier.

Both men reportedly jumped in to save the girl, but Morales was swept away from the rocks by a strong current. The second man was able to get the girl safely back to the rocks.

Morales’ body was recovered about 7 p.m. on the beach at Grand Isle State Park, the coroner’s office told the newspaper.
