LDWF sets recreational red snapper season , annonces closure for greater amberjack closure

Seasons reflect regs in federal waters.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries officials on Friday (May 20) set the recreational season and limits for red snapper and announced a two-month closure for recreationally caught greater amberjacks.

The red snapper season will open on June 1 and close July 19, mimicking the season set for federal waters, while the harvest of great AJs will be prohibited June 1 through Aug. 1, the agency said.

The daily limit for red snapper is two fish per licensed angler with a minimum size of 16 inches.

The recreational season for red snapper will close in federal and state waters at 12:01 a.m. on July 19, and is set to remain closed until 12:01 a.m. June 1, 2012.
