‘Fun w son’ wins VIP Experience fishing trip with Greg Hackney

Houma’s Carl Dupre was simply hoping to win some floor seats to the 2011 Bassmaster Classic when he signed up for the Bassmaster Classic VIP Experience Giveaway on Jan. 4. When his name wasn’t drawn earlier this month, he was disappointed – and ended up going camping with his wife over the championship weekend.

He never gave the contest another thought – until today (Feb. 21) when he receive word that he will be going fishing with Bassmaster Elite Series pro and nine-time Classic qualifier Greg Hackney.

“It sounds pretty fun,” Dupre said after through shocked chuckles. “I didn’t even know I was in the running for that.”

Dupre goes by the online handle “Fun w son.”

Hackney, who finished 42nd in the 2011 Bassmaster Classic this past weekend, will host Dupre on a bass-fishing trip after he completes the Elite Series season. The exact timing of the trip will be determined at a later date.

The trip will be featured in an episode of Louisiana Sportsman TV.

“Greg is one of the best anglers in the country, and his knowledge of how to fish bass – really any species of fish – is just amazing,” LouisianaSportsman.com’s Andy Crawford said. “This is just a great opportunity for Carl to up his game and learn how to put more fish in the boat.”

Dupre said he is looking forward to the time on the water with this accomplished Louisiana pro, who has won three B.A.S.S events and the 2009 FLW Championship. And he admintted has lots to learn about catchig greenies, since bass aren’t Dupre’s go-to choice.

“We do a lot of saltwater fishing,” he said. “But fishing is fishing.”
