This year, tens of thousands of LSU fans went crazy watching the Tigers humble the Alabama Crimson Tide on the gridiron of Tiger Stadium.
A smaller but just as raucous crowd did the same cheering for the LSU bass fishing team at the New Orleans Arena just before the final weigh-in for the 2011 Bassmaster Classic.
A six-man team of LSU students outfished a similar-sized team from Alabama to take the trophy in the second-annual College Classic.The event was held out of Doiron’s Marina, and anglers were restricted to fishing a limited area near Morgan City so as not to interfere with Bassmaster Classic contestants.

Mount said he and partner T.J. Goodwyn focused on the Crackerhead area all day, and the action was spectacular.
“We caught about 80 fish today,” he said. “About 75 percent of them bit a spinnerbait.”
The anglers also fished a SPRO frog, a square-billed crankbait and a Senko.
Their biggest fish was a 3 ½-pounder, Mount said, but the rest were small. The anglers were able to cull only three fish.
Mount and Goodwyn’s fish were combined with those caught by their four teammates. Each six-man team weighed in 15 fish.
As a result of their win, the LSU team qualified to fish next year’s College Classic in Northwest Louisiana.
Fishing for LSU, in addition to Mount and Goodwyn, were Mason McCain, Doug Greenman, Douglas McClung and Travis Laurent.
