The two winners of the Bassmaster Classci VIP Experience Giveaway and their guests rubbed elbows with the world’s best bass anglers yesterday (Feb. 17) during the official Media Day. And they couldn’t have been happier about how it turned out.
“I thought the fishermen would be on a stage talking about how they would be fishing, and we’d be in the back just watching,” Luling high-schooler Hunter McDonald said.
Instead, McDonald and his buddy Wesley Brown found the Classic field seated around small tables and available for autographs and short visits.
“I liked meeting the fishermen,” McDonald said. “I expected them to be more cocky, but they were really nice.”
Marrero’s Ramon Burciaga was the other Bassmaster Classic VIP Experience winner, and he said it was a thrilling experience.
“I had a great time, hanging out (and) talking with some of the best fishermen in the world, like Mike Iaconelli, getting to meet Shaw Grigsby and Tommy Biffle – guys I watched when I was growing up,” said Burciaga, whose father-in-law Calvin Menard tagged along for the event.
What really struck both of the VIP winners was how down to earth the professional anglers were.
“(T)hey were people just like us,” McDonald said.
