A portion of the Plaquemines Parish waters closed to fishing on Monday were reopened last night (July 7) by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Now open are inshore waters east of the Mississippi River south of 29 degrees, 38 minutes, 12 seconds north latitude near Mozambique Point and north of the Mississippi River between the Twin Pipeline Canals at 89 degrees, 42 minutes, 32 seconds west longitude and the double-rig line and 89 degrees, 28 minutes, 06 seconds west longitude near Sable Island.
This latest action opens popular fishing areas including Quarantine Bay, California and American bays, Gays Gardene and Crabe, and Bay Lafourche.
All other closures remain in effect, although catch and release fishing in those closed areas was allowed beginning Tuesday night (July 6). It is important to note that those fishing closed waters cannot possess any fish.
The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission meets this morning, and must ratify the actions taken by the agency over the past month – including the catch-and-release policy.
