Arkansas Duck Calling Classic in two weeks

Delacroix’s other fish is always available this month.

Ducks Unlimited and Mack’s Prairie Wings are joining forces March 19 to host the Arkansas Duck Calling Classic, one of the largest sanctioned duck calling competitions in the country, in Stuttgart, Ark. All calling events are qualifiers to the World’s Championship Duck Calling Contest held around Thanksgiving.

First, second and third places will be awarded in all contests, as well as each age division in the junior contest.

The Classic kicks off with the Arkansas State Contest at 6 p.m., followed on Saturday (March 20) by five contests held on the “Main Stage” on Main Street.

The Cache River Regional will kick off the day of contests at 9 a.m., followed by the Ducks Unlimited Regional at noon. The Ducks Unlimited/Mack’s Prairie Wings Junior Competition, for callers ages 12 and under and 13-16, will begin at 2:30 p.m.

The Mack’s Prairie Wings Regional Contest will be held at 3:30 p.m., and then the Team Duck Calling Competition will wrap up the contest for the day.

Judging is based on a contestant’s ability to bring in a simulated flight of ducks.  Each contestant is allowed a maximum of 90 seconds to blow the following:
• Hail or long-distance call
• Mating or lonesome duck call
• Feed or chatter call
• Comeback call

The two-man team event will be judged as a hunting-style competition, where contestants will sound like several ducks (not the ringing call or the hail call).
.
All applicants are encouraged to register 30 minuets prior to the contest. This event is unique in that it gives calling contestants four chances at qualifying for the World’s Championship Duck Calling Contest in Stuttgart, AR held around Thanksgiving each year.
