National crappie tournament slated for Toledo Bend

A Crappie USA qualifying event, along with a free crappie kids rodeo, will be held on Toledo Bend March 27. Anglers will be weigh seven-fish limits of crappie, with money and the opportunity to advance to the Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic to be held in October in Alabama.

The tournament will be held out of Cypress Bend Park in Many, with the weigh-in beginning at 3 p.m.

A pre-tournament seminar will be held at Cypress Bend Resort on March 26 beginning at 5 p.m., and there will be a “National Sponsor Field Test Product” drawing at 7 p.m. The top crappie anglers in the region also will be on hand.

Tournament entry costs $200 per team for the semi-pro division and $100 per team for the amateur division. An optional $10-per-team big fish pot also is available. All participants must be members of the American Crappie Association, which is an additional $24 ($10 for spouse and youth memberships).

The Free Crappie Kids Rodeo held in conjunction with the adult competition will begin with sign-up at 8 a.m. at Cypress Bend Park, with competition running from 9-11 a.m. The event is free and open to all children 12 and under.

Participants of this children’s event are eligible for one of six $2,000 Crappie USA scholarships to be awarded at the Crappie USA Classic scheduled for Oct. 27-30 on Alabama’s Pickwick Lake.
