Flooding ends deer hunting in portions of Southeast Louisiana

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Secretary Robert Barham has issued a declaration of emergency closing all hunting seasons, except waterfowl, effective today in portions of Southeast Louisiana due to flooding.

LDWF officials have determined that floodwaters in the area could pose a potential risk of over-harvest and safety risk to the hunting public.

The closure applies to Elm Hall Wildlife Management Area and those portions of Louisiana south of Interstate 10, west of Interstate 310, north and west of Highway 90, east of Highway 70, and east of Highway 22.

This includes portions of St. Mary, Assumption, Ascension, Lower St. Martin, Lafourche, Terrebonne, St. James, St. John and St. Charles parishes.

These areas will be closed to all hunting, except waterfowl, until further notice.
