Boeuf WMA closed because of flooding

Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Secretary Robert Barham has issued a Declaration of Emergency closing Caldwell Parish’s Boeuf Wildlife Management Area until further notice because of high water.

The closure went into effect today (Nov. 20), and likely will not be lifted in time for the previously scheduled Thanksgiving either-sex hunts.

Heavy rainfall in northeast Louisiana has impacted the WMA with flooding from the Ouachita and Boeuf Rivers. Managers have determined that floodwaters on the area could pose a potential risk of overharvest of deer and threaten the safety of the hunting public.

Hunters looking for opportunities to take part in either-sex deer hunting on the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving are encouraged to visit other WMAs in northeast Louisiana, including nearby Big Lake, Buckhorn, Ouachita, Russell Sage and Sicily Island Hills WMAs.
