New forum view released

Navigating through LouisianaSportsman.com user reports is now even easier with the introduction of the new forum index, which provides a more-compact view of available categories and activity levels within each individual forum.

Want to know what’s going on within hunting? Just find that category and glance to the right to see how many others have viewed that forum and how many individual hunting reports have been posted. The column at the far right of the page also gives a quick look at the latest post within the category.

A total of 30 forums are now available, covering everything from hunting and fishing to sports and politics. Many of these forums, such as the new “Recipes” and “Archery” areas, are being offered in response to user demand.

Once your interest has been piqued, simply click the forum name and an index of all the activity within the specific category pops up.

Traditionally, a large portion of each original post and a synopsis of comments have popped up whenever entering a reports category, but the new index allows for a much more efficient view of the latest 50 posts.

Instead of scrolling through report after report, users can now swiftly move through the index and pull up only those reports that are interesting. To facilitate this, titles, users’ alias and dates of original posting are found in the left column. The next column provides the number of views of each report, and the number of comments can be found next to that. On the right side of the index is a short synopsis of the latest comment on each post.

So, say you want to catch some trout and reds. No problem: On the forum index, click on “Inshore Fishing” and scroll through the forum, picking through the index for only those reports that seem to address that topic.

Clicking on any individual post in a forum will pull up the entire thread. Once you’re finished, simply click the “Back” button and return to the last forum you were perusing.

The new forum index is accessible from anywhere on the site by simply clicking “Forum” just under the title banner.

For those who prefer the old way of doing things, that’s no problem. The original LouisianaSportsman.com reports view can be accessed by clicking the “Reports” link beneath the title banner of each page.

Keep in mind that this is a beta version, which means there could be some glitches. We need your feedback if you run into problems. While we have tested the index extensively in-house, we all know some of you will find ways glitches that we haven’t thought about.

If you find a problem, please e-mail me andyc@lasmag.com and let me know what happened.

We hope you enjoy the new look, which is part of the ongoing effort to improve LouisianaSportsman.com’s look and functionality.
