L.D.W.F. reopens Iatt Lake to fishing

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) reopened Iatt Lake in Grant Parish on Sept. 10 to fishing due to Hurricane Gustav’s heavy rains.

The lake was undergoing a drawdown to help control nuisance aquatic vegetation. Iatt Lake was closed to fishing on July 7 to avoid heavy fishing pressure on the fish left in the concentrated waters left behind after the drawdown.

However, Hurricane Gustav brought heavy rainfall and refilled the lake resulting in water topping the spillway. LDWF has reasoned that there is insufficient time to lower the lake to have an efficient drawdown and therefore is abandoning the drawdown that was slated to continue until Oct. 6.
