Men allegedly ‘double-tripped’ out of Venice, LDWF says
Enforcement agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries cited five Mississippi men for alleged redfish violations in Plaquemines Parish on Oct. 12.
Agents cited Davis Byrd, 62, Henry Cooper Jr., 45, and Hayden Bryant, 45, all of Star, Mississippi., Benton Moseley, 29, of Florence, Mississippi, and Steaven Hardaere, 29, of Harrisville, Mississippi for taking double the daily limit of redfish.
After receiving a complaint about the men ‘double-tripping’ — catching a daily limit, going back to the launch or camp and then returning to catch an additional limit the same day — agents observed the men bringing in a limit of redfish to be cleaned and packed at the marina, then leaving in their boats again.
According to a press release, agents stopped the men on the second trip and found them with an additional limit of redfish. The daily limit is five redfish per licensed fisherman, putting them at double the daily limit.
Agents seized a total of 50 redfish from the men, the release states.
Taking double the daily limit of redfish brings a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. The men may also face revocation of any and all fishing licenses for the period for which they were issued, and may also be prohibited from obtaining any new fishing license for one to three years, according to the release.
The men will also be assessed civil restitution in the amount of $661 for the replacement value of the redfish, the release states.
