Redfish thick near popular Southeast Louisiana port
Redfish on their most-persnickety day are more dependable than speckled trout, and they fight harder than Ali in his prime. So, it’s not a surprise that anglers who visit South Louisiana usually want to target spots rather than specks.
That’s certainly true of BASSMASTER magazine Editor James Hall, who spent late September and early October in the Bayou State. He caught a few speckled trout while he was here, but only accidentally while he was targeting redfish.
During his visit, Hall fished with Chris Macaluso, Capt. Todd Seither and me, out of Buras. We launched into the Mississippi River, and hit bays and ponds on the east side, throwing spinnerbaits, Vudus and even dead shrimp to incredibly cooperative redfish schools.
It was a fun day that resulted in an ice chest full of fillets for Hall to take back to Birmingham, Alabama.
