LDWF investigating two separate weekend boating fatalities

One in Lake Pontchartrain, the other in Mud Lake

Two men died in separate boating accidents Saturday, one in Lake Pontchartrain and the other in Iberia Parish, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

In the first case, the body of Milton B. Gomez, 66, of Ponchatoula, was recovered about 7:15 p.m. about a mile south of where the Tangipahoa River feeds into Lake Pontchartrain. Agents were alerted about 2:30 that afternoon about an unmanned 17-foot aluminum boat in the lake, the news release states.

In the second incident, the body of Leonard Norbert Jr., 58, of New Iberia, was recovered from Mud Lake about 9:50 Saturday night.

LDWF agents and the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office were alerted earlier that evening by two fishermen who found an unmanned aluminum boat and a fishing pole nearby in the water.

Both men were recovered without life jackets, according to the release.
