Body of missing boater recovered from Tickfaw River

Victim was ejected from 15-foot boat Sunday afternoon, LDWF says

The body of a 42-year-old man who was missing after a boating accident Sunday afternoon was recovered from the Tickfaw River, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

The body of Daniel Jones, of Holden, was recovered about 11:30 a.m. Monday morning in Livingston Parish, according to a press release.

A female survivor told authorities she was with Jones when he was operating his 15-foot boat with a surface drive motor near Leisure Landing south of Springfield when they were both ejected coming out a turn in the river. She swam to shore, but Jones never resurfaced, the release states.

Neither occupant was wearing a life jacket when the incident occurred, according to the release.

Authorities searched for Jones until late Sunday night, and continued the operation at daybreak Monday morning. The cause of the accident has not yet been determined, the release states.
