Sportsman TV highlights raccoon hunting

Hackney teams up with Red and Rooster for some coon-hunting action

Raccoon hunting with dogs has a year-round open season in Louisiana — a perfect scenario for another action-packed, brand new episode of Sportsman TV.

With the help of Facebook, show producer Jared Serigne and the crew teamed up with Coon Commander Outdoors — which proved to be the right combo of hunters and dogs for this nighttime adventure.

“I started looking for guys with dogs who would want to come film a show with us. One thing or another led me to Shyne Po,” Serigne said. “Shyne was super enthusiastic, and seemed like his dogs could handle the task, so we talked and decided to film together.”

And show host Greg Hackney was excited to go on a nighttime coon hunt with dogs.

“I was fired up, and when the Coon Commanders showed up, I knew things were fixing to get wide open” Hackney said.

Coon Commander Outdoors is made of up cousins Shyne Po and Andrew Prestley, alone with their dogs Red and Rooster. Red is a redbone hound, while Rooster is a walker hound. The duo didn’t take long to tree their first coon of the night- about seven minutes to be exact, and awesome footage of the dogs working can be seen in the episode.

Behind the phenomenal dogs and the experience of Po and Prestley, the crew finished the night with eight coons, and the episode provides plenty of information about hunting raccoons — and what it takes to have first-class hunting dogs.
