$5,500 reward offered for illegally killed St. Mary Parish black bears

Two adult male bears found shot to death Feb. 14, LDWF says

Officials are offering a $5,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who shot two adult male black bears in early February south of Franklin.

According to a press release from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, a citizen found a dead black bear in a marshy area off the Humble Canal on Feb. 14. Agents responding to the scene then found a second dead bear about a half-mile away.

A necropsy revealed both bears had likely been shot around Feb. 2, the release states.

Operation Game Thief, the Humane Society of the United States, the Acadiana Chapter of Sierra Club International and the Safari Club International Foundation have teamed up to offer the $5,500 reward.

Anyone with information regarding the case should call the Louisiana Operation Game Thief hotline at 1-800-442-2511, or use LDWF’s tip411 program.

To use the tip411 program, citizens can text LADWF and their tip to 847411 or download the “LADWF Tips” iPhone and Android app from the Apple App Store or Google Play free of charge.
