LDWF: Rescue volunteers headed to Houston should contact HPD

40 LDWF agents, boats sent to assist search and rescue efforts

The Houston Police Department is requesting that volunteers with boats who are headed to the city to assist with search and rescue efforts in the wake of massive flooding from Hurricane Harvey call them for directions and information first.

According to a press release from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, volunteers are asked to call the HPD at 713-881-3100 so the department can better manage the massive rescue operation and send manpower where it’s most needed.

The area has received more than 25 inches of rain since Saturday from what is now Tropical Storm Harvey.

In addition, Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) is working with the Texas Governor’s Office to stage search and rescue efforts in College Station at the TEEX training facility known as Disaster City, the release states.

Interested individuals who would like to volunteer should contact Texas Task Force 1 at 972-841-2105, or by e-mail at TTF1@soc.texas.gov for additional information.
