19th Faux Pas Lodge Rodeo set for July 27-29 in Venice

Registration closes tonight, July 25

The 19th Annual Faux Pas Lodge Rodeo is set to kickoff beginning Thursday morning out of Venice Marina, and this year’s event just might be the biggest so far.

“Registration is off the charts, actually,” said Kleo Blue, rodeo coordinator. “We wound up with  197 boats last year and this year we’re above that pace .… We have over a hundred boats signed up already.”

Once again this year, weigh-in results from Venice Marina will be posted in real time at www.fauxpaslodge.com to keep everyone updated on the leaderboard.

Fishing begins at midnight Thursday morning, July 27, and scales will be open at Venice Marina from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday. For the complete list of rodeo rules, click here.

Major categories for 2017 include inshore, offshore, rig, live redfish, speckled trout five-fish stringer, red snapper five-fish stringer, blue marlin tag and release, redfish with the most spots, live three-redfish stringer and swordfish.

The entry fee is again $45 per angler, and you can create an account to register by clicking here by noon today.

Any outstanding entry forms with payments must be turned in tonight at the captains’ meeting from 6 to 9 p.m. at Southport Hall in New Orleans to be eligible to participate in the 2017 rodeo, Blue said. To print out a registration form, click here.

Registration again includes some great swag for all anglers, Blue said.

“This year we’re doing a dry backpack, so it’s like a dry bag but a backpack that’s sponsored by Mercury and Metro Boating,” he said. “They’ll also get a T-shirt, a boonie hat, a towel and more.”
