2017 Louisiana Sportsman Big Buck Contest hits the Dome this weekend

Seven $500 Cabela’s gift certificates and more up for grabs in contest hosted by QDMA

If you’re already itching to climb into your stand this fall, get your big buck fix this weekend and make plans now to enter your mount in the Louisiana Sportsman Big Buck Contest in New Orleans at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

And to make it worth your while, contest sponsor Cabela’s is awarding each of the seven category winners $500 gift certificates — a perfect way to load up and get ready for the season.

Plus, you get free admission into the show with your mount, as well as an additional free pass to pick up your deer on Sunday afternoon.

And, a random drawing from all entrants will award a $250 gift certificate from Puglia’s Sporting Goods, which can be redeemed at the Discount Zone in the Dome Sunday afternoon or at your convenience at their retail location in Metairie.

Mounts may be dropped off beginning Friday at 3 p.m. when the show opens, but must be entered no later than 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 22. The contest is once again being hosted by the Quality Deer Management Association South Louisiana Branch.

It’s free to enter — just bring your unscored deer from the 2016-17, 2015-16 or 2014-15 season to the show. Only deer from the last three seasons that have not been entered in a Louisiana Sportsman Big Buck Contest previously are eligible to win the category prizes, but every mount is eligible for the Puglia’s $250 gift certificate to be awarded in a random drawing Sunday afternoon.

Winners will be named in the following categories:

• Best Louisiana Gun

• Best Louisiana Bow

• Best Out-of-state Gun

• Best Out-of-state Bow

• Best Ladies

• Best Youth

• Best Muzzleloader/Crossbow

All deer will be scored by official Boone & Crockett and Pope & Young scorers. Again, bucks entered in any previous Louisiana Sportsman Big Buck Contest are not eligible for the category gift certificates from Cabela’s, but are eligible for the $250 Puglia’s gift certificate in the random drawing.

Bucks killed in seasons before the 2014-15 hunting season can be entered for scoring, but are only eligible for the Puglia’s random drawing — not one of the seven category grand prizes.

All entries will remain displayed on the Big Buck Contest wall until the winners are announced there starting at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, July 23.
