LDWF agent rescues three from sinking shrimp boat

Accident happened in Vermilion Bay Tuesday around 5:30 a.m.

An enforcement agent with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries rescued three people this morning after their 20-foot shrimp boat struck a submerged vessel in Vermilion Bay.

According to a press release, Sgt. Mitch Darby rescued a 55-year-old New Iberia man, as well as two young boys, just before they were about to enter the water with life jackets on.

Authorities were alerted to the accident about 5:30 a.m., and Darby returned the victims to a boat launch where family members were waiting. The 55-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy sustained minor injuries in the accident, the release states.
