Overdue boaters found safe Monday on Mississippi River

Two 22-year-olds had prop damage, tied off to tree overnight, LDWF says

Search and rescue teams found two overdue boaters on the Mississippi River in West Feliciana Parish Monday morning, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

The two 22-year-olds, who headed out about 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon to check fishing lines, told authorities their motor struck an unknown object, damaged the prop and made the motor inoperable, according to a release.

They paddled to a backwater area and tied off to a tree for the night. On Monday morning, they started to paddle back to the main channel of the river when a family member spotted them, the release states.

Neither man sustained any injuries, according to the release.
