No STAR winners over Memorial Day Weekend

100 tagged redfish, 50 tagged trout still swimming, tournament director says

After weekend No. 1 of the Coastal Conservation Association of Louisiana’s STAR Tournament, there are still 100 tagged redfish and 50 tagged speckled trout swimming along the coast.

For the first time in several years — probably due to some tough fishing conditions — tournament director Rad Trascher said no one reeled in a CCA-tagged fish over the long Memorial Day Weekend.

“I fished this weekend, and in some areas maybe it wasn’t bad, but in others like Grand Isle it was kind of tough, so that hindered things for sure,” Trascher said. “We had a couple of false alarms with yellow tags, but no winners. All was pretty quiet.”

The first registered angler who catches a CCA-tagged redfish wins a Chevy Silverado pickup truck, and the second tagged redfish will earn someone a Chevy Colorado truck. The next eight tagged redfish would mean NauticStar boats for those lucky anglers.

Once again this year, Louisiana Sportsman is sweetening the pot in the Tagged Redfish Division, offering a $10,000 bonus prize to the first STAR-registered angler who catches a tagged redfish and is also a current subscriber to the magazine.

Anglers must have subscribed to Louisiana Sportsman at least one day prior to catching any eligible tagged redfish to claim the bonus, so don’t put off subscribing.

Trascher was in the process of collecting information from weigh stations across the state Tuesday morning, and expected the updated tournament leaderboard to be posted later this afternoon.

He also reminded all anglers that CCA tags are red, and have ‘2017 CCA Louisiana STAR’ written on them along with a phone number to call.
