Tip of the day

Mike and Freddie McMullen were making impressively long casts most of the day with minimum weight on the ends of their lines. I finally caught on to what they were doing.

Every so often, they would grab a trigger pump plastic bottle of Blakemore Real Magic lubricant and give the line on their spools a few squirts. The stuff worked on the very next cast and quite a few casts after that.

“You can get 30 to 40 percent more casting distance using it,” said Freddie conspiratorially.

The lubricant, against all logic, must be odorless, because the fish paid absolutely no attention to its presence on the line and the line left no oily sheen on the water. They pair used it both on braided and monofilament lines.
