Incident occurred on Jan. 31 in Red River Parish, LDWF says
A 40-year-old Shreveport man faces multiple deer-hunting violations after allegedly admitting to enforcement agents that he shot a doe with a 9 mm pistol on Bayou Pierre Wildlife Management Area — where the whole season for deer is bow and arrow only.
According to a press release from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Jeremy A. Miller was cited for taking deer using illegal methods and violating WMA regulations in the incident, which took place on Jan. 31 in Red River Parish.
Agents on patrol on the WMA heard a gunshot, and headed in that direction, where they made contact with Miller, who was in possession of a bow and arrow and a pistol near a downed doe.
During questioning, Miller allegedly admitted to killing the deer with the pistol, the release states.
The season for deer is bow and arrow only on the Bayou Pierre WMA, and it is illegal to carry a pistol there without a concealed carry permit, according to the release.
Agents seized the pistol and the doe, which was donated to a local charity, the release states.
Taking deer using illegal methods brings a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail. Violating a WMA regulation carries a $100 to $350 fine and up to 60 days in jail. Miller may also face civil restitution totaling $1,624 for the replacement value of the illegally taken deer, according to the release.
