Use window sash weight to control boat

Controlling a boat with using only a trolling motor can be challenging, particularly with stop-and-go crappie fishing.

Clyde Folse solved that problem with a simple solution — dragging a window sash weight on the bottom from the stern of his boat.

Back in the day when home windows were meant to be opened and constructed of wood rather than aluminum, millions of these slender iron bars were used as counter-weights to hold windows open.

The key is that the weight is small enough to allow a trolling motor to pull it easily while its torpedo shape keeps it from hanging up on bottom debris.

And it provides just enough bite to keep the boat’s stern from swinging when the trolling motor is put in neutral.

Sash weights are worth their weight in gold when fishing with a strong wind blowing up the stern of the boat.
