Swamp tour airboat and mud boat collide in Lafourche Parish; one dead

Accident occurred in bend along Bayou Des Allemands, LDWF says

A 35-year-old Des Allemands man died Monday afternoon when the mud boat he was operating struck a swamp tour airboat near Mud Lake in Bayou Des Allemands, according to a press release from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Bart B. Dufrene Jr., 35, was killed in the accident, which occurred about 3 p.m. in Lafourche Parish, the release states. The airboat operator along with five passengers were uninjured.

According to survivors on the airboat, the mud boat and airboat were traveling in opposite directions on the same side of the bayou and collided in a bend.

Dufrene was ejected into the water and recovered by the airboat operator with Airboat Tours by Arthur, the release states. He was not wearing a life jacket, but it is unknown now if that could have prevented the fatality, the release states.

Dufrene was transported to shore, and an ambulance brought him to St. Charles Parish Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
