Schnepp ejected in 7 a.m. accident Sunday morning, LDWF says
A 55-year-old Alexandria woman died Sunday morning after being ejected from the boat she was riding in on the Red River in Rapides Parish, according to a news release from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
Holly A. Schnepp died as a result of the accident, which took place about a quarter-mile from the Curtis-Coleman Bridge, the release states.
The man operating the boat said the steering handle slipped out of his hand and caused the 12-foot vessel to turn quickly, ejecting both of them into the water. Schnepp got caught under the vessel and didn’t resurface, the release states.
A tugboat in the area got them out of the water after about 30 minutes, and transported them to the banks of the river where paramedics were waiting, according to the release. Schnepp was unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the man was conscious and was transported to Rapides Regional Hospital with minor injuries.
Both Schnepp and the man were wearing life jackets, the release states.
