Minimum size limit also could be bumped up to 15 inches by CMR
Mississippi speckled trout anglers will have to make alternate plans during the first months of 2017, if a proposal by the state’s Commission of Marine Resources today is approved.
The agency announced it’s intent to implement a three-month closure of recreational trout fishing in state waters from Jan. 1 through March 31.
“The closure shocked the crap out of me,” Alex Smith, an angler who attended the Gulfport meeting, told Mississippi Sportsman. “It came out of the blue; a commissioner just proposed it, and it was approved.
“There was no comment. I think people were just shocked.”
Commissioners also proposed bumping the minimum size limit to 15 inches from its current 13 inches.
