Incident occurred Monday evening near Willow Lake in Cameron Parish, LDWF says
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s deputies recovered the body of a 45-year-old Lake Charles man from the Intracoastal Waterway Monday evening, according to a news release from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
Louis Kibodeaux’s body was recovered around 10:30 p.m. near Willow Lake in Cameron Parish, the release states.
A 26-year-old woman was found alive clinging to a capsized flat-bottomed vessel by a passing tugboat around 6:30 p.m. Monday. The woman was transported to a Lake Charles hospital, where she was listed in critical condition, according to the release.
Kibodeaux’s body was recovered about four hours after receiving the distress call from the tugboat. Agents with the LDWF recovered the vessel, which appeared to have had a head-on collision with an unknown object that ejected Kibodeaux and the woman into the water.
Neither person was wearing a personal flotation device when the accident occurred, the release states.
Kibodeaux’s body was turned over to the Cameron Parish Coroner’s Office to determine an official cause of death, according to the release.
