Ponchatoula man dies in Lake Pontchartrain on Friday

Body recovered at mile marker 13.1 just east of the Causeway Bridge, LDWF says

A Ponchatoula man died in Lake Pontchartrain Friday afternoon after his 14-foot boat was found partially submerged just east of the Causeway Bridge, nine miles from the north shore of Mandeville.

According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the body of George A Charrier, 67, was recovered from the lake about 2:15 p.m.

Agents suspect the accident may have been weather-related because a thunderstorm hit the area where Charrier had been fishing, the release states.

He was found with a life jacket, but it was not properly fastened or secured, according to the release. The St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office is determining the exact cause of death.
